The Sixth Question

Do you have any favorite poem except Korean? Could you introduce it?

I like Shakespeare's Sonnet 18. It seems very old but when I lisened it,
the sound of recitation made me deep impression. Here it is.

Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day (Sonnet XVIII)
William Shakespeare

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Tough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st;
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Hi, Clara.
My life has been so dry for a long time. I am not poetic. However, I'd like to understand the deep part of 'life' through good poems from now on. I recommend David's Psalms in the Bible.

Hi Clair,
Great question. My favorite poem is by Dylan Thomas and is about fighting death. It says; do not die easily but instead, fight to live.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

PSALM 23

The Lord is my shepherd
I shall not be in want
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters
He restores my soul.
he guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil for you are with me ;
your rod and staff they comfort me

Hmm..the poem that I like is Shapespeare and John Keats. When I was in college, I hated taking phonetics and phonology classes but I really enjoyed taking literature classes because I felt like I was really hard working college student. If we have a time, we can get together and have a small recital reading poems^^

Hi.
I like Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken." I think it is philosophical poem. It makes me think about the other life.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
. . .
I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
